Will Hanstein, Director

Will Hanstein holds an M.A. in New Testament from Freed-Hardeman University.  He has preached since 1995 with congregations in Tennessee, Texas, and Colorado.  Additionally, he has done mission work in the South Pacific, Russia, and various parts of the United States.  He has worked with Southeast since 2015.  Will and his wife Jeni have two children, Sam and Baylee.

Dale Babinsky, Dean of Students

Dale Babinsky holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from Baldwin Wallace College, a Master of Arts in Russian History from John Carroll University, and a Bachelor of Theology from Bear Valley Bible Institute.  He has preached since 2004 for churches in Ohio and Colorado (fill in work).  Prior to coming to SEIBS he was the full-time minister for the South Stokes church of Christ in King, NC.


Mark Hanstein, Academic Dean

Mark Hanstein has earned the following degrees:  B.A. (Major: Bible; Minor: Biblical Languages), Oklahoma Christian University; M.A. (Theological Studies), Austin Graduate School of Theology.  He has preached full-time since 1975 for churches in California, Colorado, and Texas.  Before coming to Southeast, Hanstein served as academic dean and instructor with the Bear Valley Bible Institute at Denver, CO.  He also served as an elder for the Bear Valley congregation from 2006-2016. 

David Lipe, Development/Instructor

David Lipe holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Tennessee.  He has been preaching since 1967 in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama.  He taught at FHU for 20 years and was the Director at Southeast for three years.  He partially retired in 2014 and has assumed roles in Development and as an instructor.  He and his wife Linda have three children and five grandchildren.

Mike Webb, Dean of Admissions

Mike Webb holds a Master of Arts in Ministry from Freed-Hardeman University.  He has preached for twenty-five years in Tennessee and is currently the pulpit minister for the Richmond Chapel church of Christ in Gainesboro, TN.  He has one daughter, Chloe.


Jody Apple, Instructor

Jody Apple received a B.A. in Bible from Freed-Hardeman and is pursuing a M.A. in Philosophy at West Chester University.  He has preached for over 30 years in Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Puerto Rico.  He is also the director of the International Gospel Hour radio program.  Jody and his wife Evelyn have three children.  

Bob Cowles, Instructor

Bob Cowles received a M.Div. from Harding Graduate School of Religion.  He has preached since 1976 in both Missouri and Tennessee.  He has been teaching for Southeast since 1989 and served as interim director for five months in 2015.  He also preaches for the Norwood church of Christ in Knoxville, TN.  Bob and his wife Debbie have one child and two grandchildren.

Tim Forlines, Instructor

Tim Forlines holds a certificate from East Tennessee School of Preaching and Missions and a BBA from Bluefield State College.  He has preached since 1982 in both Virginia and Tennessee.  He also preaches for the Claxton church of Christ in Claxton, TN.  He and his wife Kathy have three children.


Gary Hampton, Instructor

Gary Hampton holds a B.A. in Bible from Freed-Hardeman University.  He has been preaching since 1968 in Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Mississippi.  He was the Director of Southeast from 2006-2011.  He is currently the preacher for the Siwell Road church of Christ in Jackson, MS.  Gary and his wife Teresa have two children.

Steve Higginbotham, Instructor

Steve Higginbotham received a B.S. in Bible from Freed-Hardeman University.  He has preached since 1984 in West Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee.  He currently preaches for the Karns church of Christ in Knoxville, TN.  Steve and his wife Kim have four children.

Melvin Otey, Instructor

Melvin L. Otey received formal education from St. Louis University (BSBA, 1997), Howard University School of Law (JD, 2000), Amridge University (BS in Ministry/Bible, 2008; MDiv in Ministerial Leadership, 2014), and has served as an Associate Professor of Law at Faulkner University, Jones School of Law, since August 2014. He writes for Christian publications and conducts Gospel meetings, lectures and seminars. He and his family worship and work in Montgomery, AL.

Brent Rutherford, Instructor

Brett Rutherford holds an M.A. in Ancient Near Eastern History from the University of Memphis. He is also a graduate of the Memphis School of Preaching. He had worked with congregations in Tennessee, Wisconsin and Australia. Brett has done campaign work in the countries of Tanzania and Zambia. He is currently working with the Mersey Bluff Church of Christ in Devonport, Tasmania, Australia where he serves as the evangelist and an elder. Brett and his wife Joanne have three children, Mitchell, Lachlan, and Chelsea.
